Indiatimes gets artyIndiatimes.com is launching Indiatimes Art (http://art.indiatimes.com) that will act as a virtual platform showcasing works of Indian artists for potential buyers. It will also offer online art advice on how to go about investing in the field.

Indiatimes Art has partnered with several top galleries and constituted a panel of experts that will guide the portal in the selection of art works, recognise and nurture fresh talent. This panel will interact with visitors to the site who have a query or an opinion on a work of art or any art-related subject. The panel consists of eminent members of the art fraternity including Keshav Malik, Rameshwar Broota, Gopi Gajwani, Anjolie Ela Menon, Rajiv Lochan, Niren Sen Gupta and Dr Saryu Doshi. More on this can be read here

This is an interesting foray by indiatimes. Auctions that was started by ebay in the US started with items that were rare (art being one of them). As of now the indiatimes site is not live so we do not know whether the work of art would be sold online either by auction or at a fixed price.. Its also not clear whether there will be online sales or just a showcase of Indian art. But whatever might be the case it surely is an interesting move to foray into art as high priced art means higher margins on sale for indiatimes!
