Online video entertainment increasing in India

Online video entertainment which was made popular world over by Youtube is starting to catch on in India and leading the way is suprisingly is Rajshri Media the digital media and entertainment arm of the Rajshri group which recently launched rajshri.com as a broadband entertainment destination online for premium Indian video content on November 10. It started the portal by offering Vivah its latest release for download for a period of 72 hours.

Rajshri has already aggregated more than 3,000 hours of premium Indian video content across multiple genres. Consumers can stream and download hundreds of full-length feature films, including blockbusters like Phir Hera Pheri, Hera Pheri, Amar Akbar Anthony, Ek Duje Ke Liye, Love In Tokyo, Hum Aapke Hain Koun.. etc. RMPL also features film and non-film music videos, concerts, humor clips, short films and documentaries licensed from the most respected individuals and organisations of their fields.

And though rajshri has led the way others are starting to catch up as recently the internet saw the launch of Nautanki.tv what was claiming to be India’s first online TV channel. Media Monkz Communications, a company setup by media and advertising professionals has launched Nautanki.tv – India’s first online TV channel. Nautanki.tv uses webcasting technology to distribute a fixed daily schedule like any regular channel. Sumit Luthra, Media Monkz CEO says that by the end of March there would be 3 hours of original content produced / commissioned by Media Monkz on Nautanki.tv.

And nautanki.tv is not alone either it will soon be joined by Zapak.tv which is soon to be launched as well..

There are also a bunch of youtube clones like meravideo.com, apnatube.com and videodubba.com which are trying to use user generated content as an usp. How many users will log on and upload video’s is something that only time can tell.

So it seems that online video entertainment is already looking at becoming a competitive segment.
