Since internet has come into being it has provided an information explosion like no other medium.. Good, bad and sometimes ugly information as well. But all in all information that is making younger generations smarter, sharper and maybe a little arrogant as well.

So here comes another initiative to leverage the reach and the free information image of the internet to provide information about central and state laws, judgments of various courts in India besides news of the legal world. Dr. Manmohan Singh recently launched country’s first free legal information portal http://www.indlii.org/ on the eve of Law Day in New Delhi, India. The portal is virtual extension of India Legal Information Institute with the technical support of Ahmedabad based technology consulting company Bitscape Solutions.

The reason we are figuring this on WATblog is not only because the site has free information but also because it has a Cyber Law section as well (which also gave a link to a blog on cyber cases) which according to me will be a crucial factor for growth of internet and technology in India.

This initiative is a very good one as free access to legal information would help the younger generation be well informed about their rights and processes and procedures to be followed incase of any contingency. Here’s hoping though that this portal is regularly updated and becomes a more interactive platform than it is to help in guiding those whose legal knowledge limited.
