Exchange4Media: MIH India, the Indian arm of South African media company Naspers which has recently launched the blogging and social networking website Ibibo.com and two gaming sites chotafish.com and motafish.com has bought Bixee.com (a search engine for jobs) and Pixrat.com (a picture sharing site)which was owned by RHRNetworks.

RHR Networks was founded by ex-Yahoo employees Rajesh Warrier and Ruban Phukan. In addition to all assets of Bixee.com, including technologies, the founders and team of Bixee.com will also become part of MIH India.

We had featured both bixee and pixrat in our India 2.0 series and appreciated the work that RHR network was doing.

Ashish Kashyap, CEO, MIH India, said, “With this acquisition, MIH India has commenced setting up an engineering operation in Bangalore in addition to its HQ at Gurgaon. The team will continue to work on augmenting and further developing Bixee.com and other related technologies and develop other innovative applications for the Indian Internet and mobile space.”

This acquisition is a very good sign for the Indian internet Industry and it shows that startups with good technology or good market focus with little revenue can also dream of scaling up into a big business.
