Agloco Wants To Pay You To Surf …

I still remember my nascent days on the Internet, the time when services like AllAdvantage.com and others used to excite me. The whole idea of getting paid to just surf the internet was very lucrative. However, those days were hampered by poor internet access speeds. And to add to the woes, if you were surfing from India, the payout would not be even worth the amount you would end up paying to the telephone companies and your ISP. Probably that was a major reason why such services never made it real big!
Like everything on the internet, it seems that the idea of getting paid to surf (ofcourse while subjecting yourself to some good amount of advertising or collecting some vital stats about your surfing habits) is also making a comeback. Agloco is a new Stanford-based start-up that wants to pay you to surf the Web, in return for access to your online surfing information.
Here is what Agloco have to say about themselves,
What is AGLOCO™ all about? AGLOCO™ is the first Internet based economic network, which enables you as a Member to Get your share of the Internet. Advertiser’s, search companies, online merchants and other businesses currently pay lots of companies to deliver people like you to them for attention and commerce. With AGLOCO™ they will be paying YOUR company. AGLOCO™ is also a global community of Internet users whose active Members can paid for all their online activity. By downloading our proprietary Viewbar™TM technology, members benefit from engaging content tailored to their interests. AGLOCO™ also pays its members to refer their friends to the community (and for those friends to refer more friends through four levels of extended referrals.)
Gigaom, blasted Agloco as a pyramid scheme says, It is a reincarnation of the bubble-era AllAdvantage, which PC World at the time said was one the worst sites on the Internet. AllAdvantage folded in 2001, when Web advertising dried up. Now, considering the fact that Om Malik reports technology before it actually, completely arrives … Agloco says Gigaom misunderstood some of its intentions.
And to make it all clear .. Its founders sat down with VentureBeat, and explained how its model is different from AllAdvantage. Check it out - http://venturebeat.com/2006/11/20/agloco-luanches-wants-to-pay-you-to-surf-the-internet/
Ohh by the way if you were wondering, Agloco is also created by a couple of AllAdvantage.com founders.
