HumSubka.com has become the first ever Social Networking website in the world to provide 1GB free space to upload, store, access, and share personal videos, photos, movies, music, and other files according to a press release.

“You can store most major file types in HumSubka Storage Center, including JPEG, GIF, BMP, all Microsoft Office file types, MP3, Real Media, WAV, AIFF, HTML, and numerous others” said Avnish Saxena, Vice President - Marketing & Sales, HumSubka.com

UPDATED BY RAJIV: Well offering 1GB storage seems like a great feature as we all know Gmail has come up due to its 2.7 gb storage. But Gmail is all about email and for email space is required! Orkut which is arguably the most popular social network in India has no storage facility! Not even files! All it has is photo uploading! There is no sharing available as well! Hmmm.. well its not that orkut may not get into all this.. After google acquired youtube its quite possible to see a video upload and share feature on orkut in the near future also Google docs and spreadsheets could be integrated with orkut. Now if Orkut makes such a move in India where would Humsubka be? Maybe the Indian name has an advantage but with 1.6 million Indian users already on orkut does an Indian Name have that much of an advantage? Im not so sure.. But nevertheless you have to give credit to humsubka for being innovative and applying their minds to become better each day.

  1. What I am interested to know is the SSL support/ encryption they are providing for securing my data on their servers.

Plus if it's just to store/share images, videos and all, there are a lot many better options available.
