F**kedCompany? What the…? Before you jump out of your seats and feel dismayed at the use of such expletives on this public blog, it is suggested that you visit this website. FuckedCompany (now, I can use it, right?!) is perhaps the opposite of Techcruch. . While Techcrunch chronicles and reviews up and coming companies, services and products, FuckedCompany on the other hand, has news and rumour listings on which companies are about to bite the dust, show signs of going bust or in other words, are getting f**ked (Ok, here I’ll have to be polite!). What’s more, it’s based on the dead pool game format, where one predicts and places bets on companies, whose fortunes she finds to be on the wane. So more severe the nature of the impending doom, and equally accurate one’s prediction is, more points one accumulates. .Here are the rules.

The Wikipedia entry on F**kedCompany mentions F**kedComapany’s name is a parody on the name of FastCompany. Fast Company is a well-known business magazine covering innovation, digital media, technology and leadership.

The Fast Company blog, Fast Company Now is a very valuable source of information. Seth Godin also contributes for the Fast Company blog. I mention Seth because I regularly follow posts on his blog and I’m currently going through his book, The Big Red Fez: How To Make Any Web Site Better where he provides interesting and valuable insights through real life examples.

To monetize the traffic that F**kedCompany received, an advertising platform Adbrite was founded. According to Techcrunch, it’s the 11th largest ad network in the U.S. with 61.5 million unique visitors. With their new offering Adbrite 2.0,, advertisers can now, in addition to text ads, purchase banner and other graphical ads as well as “interstitials” which take over an entire page when a visitor first comes to a website.

Here’s how it works - "Advertisers can also target ads beyond keywords and specific publishers. Adbrite determines demographic data for visitors to network publishers via a cookie and reverse IP lookup. They grab U.S. census data based on the zip code of the visitor, which gives them data on ethnicity and income level. Adbrite also looks at Comscore data for each site that user visits, which gives them reasonalby good age and gender data. Once a user visits enough sites, Adbrite has a very good idea of the age, gender, ethnicity and income level of that particular user. Advertisers can then choose to target their ads to certain users. In the future, Adbrite says they will be able to track even more information on a user in the future - such as if they are a new parent, or looking for a car - based on the sites they visit." Very interesting..Here’s the complete Techcrunch article.
