Internet access through mobile - is it the future?

Well it is no secret that in India the number of mobiles are more than the number of internet enabled computers. Also the fact that mobile penetration is happening in India at a record breaking spead. 6.6 million mobile phone subscribers were added in October 2006. Now the question that’s probably on most technology entrepreneurs and followers mind is that will internet use on mobile be the future in India?

Well if the comScore Networks recently released the inaugural findings of the Mobile Tracking Study are to be read one would find that mobile internet in India could be the driving factor behind Internet penetration itself.

Though the finding are about other countries it still reveals that 29 percent of European Internet users within France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK regularly access the Web from their mobile phones compared to only 19 percent in the U.S..

Of the countries examined, the highest mobile Web penetration is seen in both Germany and Italy.

The Study also shows than men are somewhat more likely to access the Web from their mobile phones than women.

The best indication of internet on mobile is the future in India is that Gmail.com has released a mobile client which helps you access your emails easily from your phone and what’s more you can easily view attachments such as photos, documents and .pdf files!

So i guess we should be prepared to send an email and download music while in travelling in train or edit a word document online and transfer it to a colleague while taking a cab! This would be the future sooner than you can think!
