After recently recieving a huge sum of 7 million dollars as funding from Sequoia Capital, Guruji.com the Indian search engine has announced a partnership with Infomedia India Ltd. This partnership will allow Guruji.com to use the business listings of Infomedia Yellow Pages as part of their city search. This tie up is expected to strengthen the local search that guruji has which can kind of be termed as its USP.

Anurag Dod, Co-Founder & CEO, Guruji.com said "This is a great partnership for us and it is a win-win for both the companies. Infomedia is one of the leading media companies with the largest database of business listing and we will make this database searchable using our technology. This will deliver huge value to the consumers who have not had this service till now. Our technology and Infomedia’s expertise in aggregating and validating data will go a long way in delivering relevant local content to the Indian internet user" he added.

Well guruji seems to also be looking at replicating the Google adwords model which made google the multi billion dolaar giant it is today. Anurag Dod, Co-Founder & CEO, Guruji.com said in an interview "We plan to roll out our own Google Adword’s like sponsored listings program in the next couple of months. One of the advantages for advertisers using our advertising program will be that their ads will get exposure to Indians who are searching for India related content (like “gifts to India”) from outside India as well. This advantage is not there for advertisers using Google.co.in for advertising as people performing Indian related search from outside of India may be using Google.com or their own country’s Google version."

Well my best wishes are with Guruji.. They would need every bit of the 7 million$ and a lot more brainstorming if they have to come even close to changing user habits in India. After all changing user habits from typing google.com to guruji.com will require more that just money and Sequoia Capital as investors.
