"It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.". Knover aka Knowledge rover is a different idea altogether. A search engine coupled with a Social Network. When I say Social Network, its a Social Network of Popular people which is created by them. The developers have uploaded around 16000 profiles of famous people. So whenever one searches on a topic, all the profiles asscociated with the topic is displayed as results. For example when searching for Hitler, u get all other profiles linked to the philosophy of this chareacter. So u find results of Musolini, Milosevic etc. One will also find why others profiles are linked, thats where u find the information. They have tried to build a web of information revolving a centre character/ profile and vice versa all characters revolving a concept For example searching for "Theory of Relativity" the engine resulted in the profiles of Albert Einstein, Stephen hawkings etc.

The coupling of "what with whom", is definitely interesting. But to have the better results of Asscociation Logics, applied by Knover, the indexing of profiles must be more ie we must have more profiles more than thr 16000 odd profiles they have currently. ie restricted to Popular characters/ celebrities it almost acts like a encyclopedia of popular people.

Intergrating this with common users profile, can give better outlook. For example in normal Social networks like Orkut, or Myspace u dont have popular celebrity profiles. But each and every user is associated  with one another based on their ideologies, Music interests, Movie interests, Hobbies etc. If and all Knover could couple users profile with it and their ideas are also displayed along with popular celebrity search results, it could give a whole volume of knowledge. By saying this I might be deviating from the basic idea of Knover which says "Our technology, which we refer to as a knowledge rover, focuses not just on individual people but also on their relationships to others, to topics, or to any word in the English language.".

The Success Factor of Knover lies in the below three points, which are self explanatory.
1. Search a topic
2. Find Associations
3. Zoom in and Learn

The other different feature found on Knover was, Six Degrees. Find documents/ articles connecting two Profiles, interesting though. I would love to search my name with Bryan adams and find some relative documents common to us :). The other features include Biography. (This we can get anywhere. SO nothing new).
Knover, released its beta on October 25 and is picking up well. Speaking about Knover,co-founder and CEO John Collier says "Relationships are the undercurrent of society and history,"."Miles Davis and John Coltrane, both connected as jazz musicians. Yeah, we know. But how about discovering the players involved with immigration reform? Or better yet, how about the relationship between John Kerry and Genghis Khan? Knover is poised to reveal these relationships."

It would be interesting to analyse the business model of "Knover". Are they just going to go ahead with Pay Per Click model of Bill Gross or are they gonna bring more ideas to generate revenue. Or I wouldnt be surprised if this fantastic idea of Knover will be acquired by Google. (Remember Orkut being acquired by Google). Infact with the index of Data Google has, Knover would give best results.

On a whole, do check out the site, its pretty informative with loads of new things in it. Are other Social Network people looking for a new competition??? Let us see whats there in plate once the final product comes out.

Other social sites that feature celebrities include Fafarazzi, YFly (co-founded by Nick Lachey with “real” celebrity profiles), and Kevo’s social network for fans
