DNA: Well rural India could look to a brighter more connected future if Intel has its way. Intel chief Craig Barrett The conditions are absolutely ripe here (Rural India) in terms of the lack of rural infrastructure and what WiMAX could do. Though most of rural India lacks communication infrastructure, connectivity and the variety of local languages is a major problem in terms of software, Barrett feels technology can turn knowledge into a tool of development.

The Intel World Ahead Programme elements are key parts of Intel’s broader investments in India, where $1 billion is aimed at growing the company’s research and development, venture capital activities and educational and community programmes in the country during the next five years.

Globally, Intel’s World Ahead Programme aims to extend wireless broadband personal computer (PC) access to the world’s next billion users while training 10 million more teachers in effective use of technology in education.
