Finding personal information on Web. I can find anyone I want. This is what Spock is into. They have designed a people search engine (aka like linkedin, which is almost a social network), which serves up a picture, address, occupation, interests & other information based on name you search for. There are many features that are included in this (Reminds me of Orkut Searches),like you can type in an occupation and location and it will spit up people that fit that category.The company is part of a wave of vertical search engines that hone in a particular topic–product reviews, want ads, news that is moving the stock market–and make the information more digestible than the results that might show up on Google or Yahoo.
Though its almost a directory of personal information, we have to check out if it is altogether a Social Network. Unlike in Linkedin, where trolling through is mostly a manual process, Spock would be an automated stuff.automated name directories have not been easy to put together. ZoomInfo is one company that has created a headhunting search engine that finds names and builds out an automated resume of that person.Spock’s public beta hasn’t started, but the founders told VentureBeat that it will have 100 million profiles.
Lets see how far Spock reaches. Hope it is as famous as Leonard Nimoy’s character SPOCK in Star Trek Series :).
