Worlds websites pass 100 million mark

15 years after the first website went online in August 1991, websites crossed 100 million mark according to internet monitoring company Netcraft. Thanks to blogs and small business websites internet has almost doubled since May 2004. Netcraft says the United States, Germany, China, South Korea and Japan show the greatest Web site growing spurts Netcraft uses the domain name system to identify Web sites, check how many of them are in a particular location, such as what operating system and Web server software they’re running, and then publishes its information in a monthly report..
But Sir Tim Berners-Lee The British developer of the world wide web told BBC News he fears that, if the way the internet is used is left to develop unchecked, "bad things" could happen. Sir Tim wants set up a research project to study the social implications of the web’s development.
