Trust Google to come up with innovations that continously help them improve and to a large extent dominate the online search business.

So here comes "Google custom search" which basically means that now anyone can build a search engine of their choice! So whether its travel deals from all the travel sites or technology based news you can have your own search engine! And whats more? You can select the sites that you want to be searched. You can add adsense and earn an income from this search page and even collaborate and help create a better search engine alongwith your friends. You can also manipulate the look and feel of the search box, to make it look integrated with the other design elements on your site.

Google’s new custom search service is an outgrowth of the Google Co-Op program started earlier this year. What google custom search does is basically provide webmasters a way to help visitors find related content on their web page itself and it creates more visbility for google’s ads there by adding more money to its kitty. A win-win situation for all the way i see it.

  1. Ah - I was also trying the same today. Pretty interesting!

  2. This would also put all vertical search engines like Guruji.com on the defensive. If some one decide to build a search engine using coop and have some volunteers to build up all Indian content sites, that would replace Guruji.com search engine.

At this point, the only differentiator would be the local business listings that Guruji offers along with the search. What will happen to Guruji when Google opens its Local listings to India?
