AOL to enter Indian Market

Posted by Rajiv Dingra on October 24th, 2006.

AOLAOL (formerly known as America Online), one of the oldest online companies is making its entry into India on 15th of November with an India based portal that will compete with domestic portals like Rediff, Indiatimes, and other international players like MSN and Yahoo.

Currently, the Indian AOL will be headed by Maneesh Dhir and the company is recruiting heavily from competition. The latest high-profile appointment is of Deepak Karambelkar, former content head at Yahoo! India.

Prior to this AOL had a customer service and customer analysis center in Bangalore but there was never a focus for the Indian market.

The revenue model of this portal is expected to be advertising based.
