NDTV and HTMedia follow TV18 footsteps

ndtvPeople are known to follow trends and it seems its not only the fashion world where trends are followed some trends are also followed in the corporate world. So TV18 the huge television company was in news recently for acquiring many internet businesses and hiving off a hindustantimesseparate internet arm to take care and build these internet businesses. This has set a trend for all the traditional media companies as NDTV has gone ahead and hived off a separate entity to handle its internet businesses and they have quite a few like  NDTV Jobs went live recently for which they have tied up with Thailand based Yello Media Ltd. They also have  NDTV Blogs, NDTV Gadgets, NDTV.com, NDTV Travels and NDTV shopping.

Now HTmedia on the other hand hinted at a similar strategy in an interview published on Moneycontrol where company’s CEO Rajiv Verma says that they are refocusing on their Dot Com business. He also doesn’t rule out the possibility of hiving off their Internet business into a separate company. The entire interview can be read here

Now the traditional media companies are focussing on the Internet by starting separate internet entities but TV18 was not the first traditional media company to do so. Times Group was the first traditional media companies to separate their internet businesses and its another story that initially they would have been better off leveraging their print reach to give their internet businesses a major upward push but nevertheless its seems like they are doing so by wiring timesjobs ads on TimesNow and publishing them in the times newspapers.
