UPDATED 20th OCT: An article in Hindu has stated figures from IAMAI that online sales are expected to go up by more than 100 per cent. The online business conducted during Diwali last year was around Rs 115 crore which is expected to cross the Rs 250 crore mark this year. In normal months, 85 per cent of orders are self purchases but during festivals like Diwali and Rakhi, the gifting orders increase to over 50 per cent.

So i guess online retailers are all set to let lakshmi in their houses and have the cash registers err.. credit card transactions ringing! ;)

POSTED 15th OCT: It is that time of the year again where everyone prospers and benefits be it businessmen or professionals. Diwali is round the corner and people will be getting ready with their credit cards to go shopping. But this time not only the retail outlets but e-commerce stores are also gearing up to attract this huge buying population this diwali. So if you busy with work even with diwali round the corner and haven’t got the time to buy some thing for your loved ones, don’t worry. Help may be at your hand, at the merest click of the mouse, thanks to the e-shopping facility offered by ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank.

ICICI bank has partnered with various shopping, travel and tourism, telecom, insurance, investments, charity and even government web sites — www.indiamart.com, www.indiatimes.com, www.irctc.co.in and www.indbazaar.com, to name a few. The "Online Shop-n-win Offer" is valid on purchases made from the October 10 till January 9, 2007.

There are also other e-commerce players like fabmall.com and the recent entrant futurebazaar.com. Soon reliance is also expected to get into online retail.

So it seems e-commerce is all set to boom this diwali season and no one’s complaining :)
