Wikipedia co-founder launching a spinoff


wikipediaLarry Sanger,co-founder of Wikipedia is launching a rival website citizendium.org Larry sanger came out of wikipedia in 2002 and became an avid critic of wikipedia for lacking accuracy.

A test version of "Citizendium" to be launched this week in California. ( the pilot project will not be open to general public view). The project got funding from a undisclosed foundation and free hosting from a hosting provider Citizendium will be open to submissions from anyone, but the power to authorise articles will be given to editors who can prove their expertise, as well as to volunteer "constables" who will keep the peace between warring interests.

Wikipedia is one of the most popular website with more than 2 million articles on over 5 million subjectsin 229 nationalities, with Nielsen NetRatings registering more than 33 million unique visitors in September this year. Wikipedia has been criticised for inaccurate and not being neutral on sensitive topics however, The British journal Nature found that the site’s articles were nearly as accurate as the professionally edited Encyclopaedia Britannica. The magazine’s review found an average of 2.92 mistakes per Britannica article and an average of 3.86 per Wikipedia article.
