Orkut now with GOOGLE ADS!!!

OK!!!am i the only one to see this? and if i am not why arent people talking abt this? :O …we always knew this is going to happen, infact we all called them fools for not doing this before….but yet when i saw it tonite on one of orkut’s community’s page…i couldnt believe it!!!….Orkut now carries google sponsored ads
Now something weird about this is that these ads dont appear always, as in when i tried refreshing the page the ads were gone!!! (i dont know what the techies would term this as 
)
As of now ( in my 2 hours of testing on orkut) i could see ads on pages related to communities only. As to why we think its a BIG news ( if this is news at all), here are the reasons:
- This means Google has now a complete new offering for its advertisers….and target advertising is going to be like the icing on the cake
- Orkut as it is had linked its accounts to gmail’s, now this would mean google mite link picasa, google video’s , google maps…and in two days the whole world would be connected to each other doing a lot more than just scrapping on orkut!!!!
- Considering the strong indian community on orkut, if Yahoo or msn or our Indian counterparts - rediff (with ilands) and indiatimes (with O3) dont do anything to build as strong a community as Orkut’s, they can give up their dreams of trying to build a consumer base except for mail and messenger users

It is not uncommon to see Google experimenting with different formats/ad placement on different services etc.
Google has been testing ads on Orkut for a while now.
I get the sense that a massive upgrade of Orkut is in the works - they have already added now features like the Google Friend maps, common friends, etc. I would call it the Wallop effect.
Maybe once their issues with Brazil are sorted out, they might push the upgrade for public.
Google has been placing ads in the community section for quiet a while now……..

(evil) devilish as it may sound but today (evil) google (orkut) has the most exhaustive database of millions of consumers and if I can be connected to 29,375,178 people through 59 friends… then u can guess how many users would be with them. The best part is that we all have happily given google data about us and in fact they can track the consumers of one of the fastest growing markets (since Orkut has a large Indian base) throughout their lives. even after taking allowance for some percentage of profiles that are not true… still the kind of information google has about its users is worth its weight in diamonds for any marketer. it should not come as a surprise that google is now starting to put ads and that to extremely targetted ones… in fact, as a marketer, today google would come as the very first name on my mind if i want targetted advertisements…. but…. the other fact that would immediately jump into picture is the extremely low percentage of people using internet in India… last i checked … the no. of internet users , though a staggering 60 million in no., are still 5.4% of the population….
Google has been providing orkut for the past years as free. Now they have started to rethink their decision of giving orkut without any profit.
