Google getting into SAAS ……. ??????
Google launching ‘Google Apps For Your Domain’ (27th August), Closing registration for the beta version of Writely , till it moves to the Google Architecture (3rd September) & day before yesterday (12th September) announcing partnership with Intuit (details not out yet) to help Intuit’s customers do business better. This seems just to be the start of a major overhaul in their business strategy. Google Apps. is also coming out with a premier service which can be reasonably expected on the SAAS(Software As A Service) model. Integrating Writely into Google Apps. would definitely be a formidable opponent to MS-Office, as the basic service will be free. Also it tying up with companies like Intuit shows their interest of making their presence felt in the SMB sector for other then search purposes.
Another development was the launch of OneBox hardware by Google with Oracle, SAS, Cognos, Salesforce.com support (many more added later) shows that it has the ‘know how’ of products & more importantly what are the drawbacks.
So we can fairly say that Google is getting all it’s pieces right, when it will be put together is a question that remains to be answered.
UPDATED BY RAJIV DINGRA: QuickBooks 2007, which Intuit will release this fall, will incorporate four Google properties–Google AdWords, Google Maps, Google Base, and Google Desktop. QuickBooks will encourage users to market themselves online by listing their businesses on Google Maps, creating and managing advertising campaigns with Google AdWords and posting their products for sale using its Google Base free Web listing service for publishing the equivalent of online classified ads. Users who create AdWords accounts through QuickBooks will be charged a $5 activation fee, but will receive a $50 credit for AdWords ads.
