The Search - Book Review
Email It!

How about a book on Search Economy coming directly from the Messaiah of Search Research? Must be perfect right ? And thats what this book is all into. John Battelle, starts the book with his much hyped ‘Database of Intentions’ (I would love if he gives the same thought into my word ‘Database of Precognitions’) and gets into the insight of Search Engines. This is not a book about google (unlike David Vise’s Google Story). Its a culmination of formation of Search Engines leading to the creation of Search Economy and foresights about Search Economy. Batelle starts the insight with Search Engines like Goto, Monier, AltaVista, Compaq, Lycos, Yahoo, Excite and then explains the birth of Google. One chapter, on Bill Gross, where he completely gives credits for Search Economy creation which he explains was taken by other people. This will completely make ya agree that the Business model for Search Engines was first created by Bill Gross and then used by intellectuals like Eric Schmidt. Most of the Final chapters covers the evolution of Search Economy (Google as a medium) and the hurdles faced by the Search Engines. The explanations on Privacy, Government Rules, Fraud Clicks, evolving search engines, future projects based on search engines just defines Batelle’s style of writing. He achieves and makes the book alive by writing about people and situations. You can watch many big names evolving with the situations. But never try to complare this book with David Vise ‘The Google Story’. This one is for Search Maniacs and ‘Google Story’ is for Google Worshippers (Like Me).
