3G India Summit 2006
Email It!
Hindustan times is organising an event on 3G on 27th Sept 2007 at Hotel Shangri La, New delhi. For those who always want to know whats 3G and dont quite make he effort to (like me!!:P), here this is what 3G actually means.
Key Topics of Discussion are:
- To benefit from high-level operator case- studies highlighting the emerging new business & service models
- To build a thorough understanding of the optimal marketing strategies that will ensure higher returns and customer loyalty
- To benefit from extended analysis of successful 3G content, application and the new VAS
Interestingly, this comes right after the Cellular Operators Association of India’s (consisting mostly of GSM players) offer of Rs. 300 crore as licence fees for a 5MHz bandwidth for 3G services, and adding of 4.2 million new GSM users in India for the month of August.
If you are interested in knowing more about the 3G scene in India and worldwide u can read it here and here

Garima,
Unfortunately, most of these events turn out to be more of marketing pitches, and presentations against each other in trying to assert their dominant positions against competitors, and keeping the smaller guys out.
I'll tell you what 3G is about, in a nutshell. 3G, the third Generation networking model, in the wireless space, was supposed to revolutionize everything. From digital signal transmissions (clear and crisper quality), to bringing seamless internet connectivity to the handset. Around the turn of this millenium, around 2000, or 2001, there was a bid for companies to work in this space, and the cost that telecom operators invested, was around 120billion USD - yep, you read it right, it is a billion.
Nothing was delivered, and people are still trying to get back that money.
Funny thing is that, network equipment manufacturers, are already talking about 4G, and even 5G, and something called LTE (Long term evolution).
Simple Summary: It's just the GSM and CDMA guys trying to make money, with too many new versions and variations of the same old thing. After a while, they just don't bite.
PS: It was nice meeting you and saying Hi during Blogcamp Chennai.
