New websites Launched - Issue 1
Email It!
The Internet space seems to be hotting up each day as new websites are launched. Some of these websites are noteworthy hence we thought of a "New websites launched" series which would mention the new websites launched and would also carry a short review on the website. This blog is our 1st issue (my god!!! we sound like a media publication house…lol) of the new websites launched and we shall continue this series ahead as well. If you guys find any new websites that are noteworthy and haven’t figured in our list please comment also we welcome your feedback on our reviews as well..
Redbus.in - This website was recently reviewed by Contentsutra in which it called itself the Makemytrip.com of bus travel(Very flattering if i was CEO of Makemytrip). They are run by a company known as Pilani Softlabs Pvt Ltd setup by Bits Pilani Alumnus and are supported by TIE-EAP of bangalore. Although there are only a few players that are solely catering to the bus travel segment the most noteworthy among them is Raj National Express which is owned and promoted by Raj Travels and is built on the same technology that GoAir uses for its online booking of tickets. Also the bus viewing facility that this website provides is something that Redbus can learn from. All in all compared to Raj National Express Red Bus seems like its has a long way to go..
StyleKandy.com - I came to know about this website through a promotional emailer from exchange4media a week or so ago. On visiting the site i found two negative things 1) i found the design too loud 2) the content was very Page 3 and the the line "i am Kandy i am going to show you stuff thats Dandy!" yaekks!
But on the positive side the site covered everything that was page 3 right from parties to dining to fashion shows (pics of kareena and shahid walking the ramp for Manish malhotra) and even exotic travel locations. For a recently launched site it had good content. The site is powered by MediaEstate which claims to be India’s first ad network (I still have to come across their network ads though) and it also had some impressive list of advertisers on the site (expected when you are powered by an ad network.). But all in all an interesting site except the dandy bit.. yaeeks!..lol
BangaloreTomorrow.com - Times Now and Media2win have jointly launched this site that seeks to provide Bangaloreans an online platform to voice their opinions on Bangalore’s identity, places and its future. BangaloreTomorrow.com will carry messages, features, survey based stories, interviews, consumer voice, interactive exercises and ground activation with the news makers and people of Bangalore. Right now the site has a flashed based interface with comments from users on an interactive map of Bangalore. This site come very close in competition with Sifymax’s Bangalorelive.in which is a broadband video portal which covers banglore and also has and interactive interface with polls and other sity specific topics.
Tamil-songs.co.in - Tamil portal Chennai Online has launched an exclusive website for Tamil music. The website, touted as a one-stop shop for Tamil music download, was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi recently. The cost of downloading a song is Rs 12, and those who do not have access to a computer can send the list of songs they want and would recieve the song cd at their doorstep.
RealEstate.co.in
Property.co.in - US-based eClickSmart which owns Ads.co.in has launched Real Estate and Property portals, RealEstate.co.in and Property.co.in respectively. RealEstate.co.in is a Person-Person online classifieds marketplace connecting the buyers and sellers. Registration and listings on RealEstate.co.in is free. However, the advertisements are validated for relevance and the advertisers are notified about the acceptance or rejection of their ads through email. In addition, Property.co.in, which is in beta phase, will allow commercial and residential real estate builders and developers to showcase their new projects. This service will be free for a limited time. All in all .co.in domains with generic names. How far it goes only time will tell.
Startups.in - A team of two has started Startups.in/India with an intention to publish information on startups in India. More so, instead of blogging their personal opinions they wanted to hear it from the actual people behind these startups. I came to know about them as i was the first few priviledged ones to give an interview.
Their end goal is two fold - (i) help spread the word out to the world about the startups in India and (ii) help the future entrepreneurs learn from the experiences of the seasoned entrepreneurs.
I think they have a novel idea. Particularly the ‘digg-esque’ voting functionality which one of their readers pointed out. They could be the platform that startup companies need inorder to get the right kind of audience (i mean investors/partners/mentors) being attracted to them.

Interesting. Redbus is something I look forward to. Amazingly, do you realize how none of these new websites are so not modeled on Web 2.0? I wonder what their long term expectations are.
Another thing… all these city based websites still use offline marketing techniques which when taken online make for the worst possible user experience.
Bangalorelive.com for example, uses a blatant push activity (a few minutes after login, every Sify Broadband user suddenly sees the site opening on his PC) which is more irritating than door to door salesmen. Sure shot way of killing respect for the brand outrightly!
Hey nice analysis bunty..especially the bangalorelive bit.. but i guess sify does that across all its cafe's for all its new websites.. so its nothing new for them.. I call it fabricated page views.. About the 2.0 bit.. Im a firm believer in need rather than platform.. I feel if your website satisfies a strong need in the market then its irrelevant whether its 2.0 or 1.0 or any .0 for that matter 8o|
Hey Rajiv, I agree with you on the 'need' part. But the bad news is that if you don't do it, your competitor will. His website will be viral marketed, talked about, find a mention in blogs such as these while yours wouldn't. Now you can't escape that, can you?
Well bunty.. It depends how you look at it.. do you want to be famous coz you have a web 2.0 website.. or do you want to be famous because you run a great company. Great companies take years in the making. Im not saying web 2. is irrelevant but i think it shouldn't be over and above the fundamental demand and supply funda. So if your website satisfies a strong need well.. i guess 2.0 or 1.0 are only numbers.. :))
Thank you for the mention, Rajiv. It's been a pleasure to know you.
Warm Regards,
