Lintas wins Ministry of Tourism account

Industry sources say that Ministry of Tourism (MoT) is planning an online spend of Rs 14-15 crore, among the highest online spends for an organisation in India and to advertise online has roped in Lintas IMAG, Lintas Group’s integrated marketing arm.

Lintas IMAG will draft an extensive online and web marketing plan for MoT for the period between September 2006 and March 2007.

This is not the first time that Lintas IMAG is working for MoT; in the first quarter of 2006, it had executed two online campaigns for MoT – for the promotion of ‘Buddhism’ and ‘North-East Tourism’.

The online travel industry is growing at 125% (CAGR) annually. Generating revenues of around $300-$500m currently, the size of this industry is around 2% of the entire travel industry’s.

“Growing at the current rate the online travel industry in India may become a $2bn industry by ’08. In this highly competitive industry only those travel portals that will address travellers needs rightly will sustain,” said Sandeep Murthy, CEO, Cleartrip.com in an article in Economic Times.

Hence its no surprise that the Ministry of tourism is looking at the online model to promote tourist locations.
