Cleartrip joins hands with Lonely planet

Exchange4media:  Online travel portal Cleartrip which is funded by Sherpalo has tied up with Lonely Planet, a widely recognised travel content brand, to launch ‘Small World’, an online travel guide. This digital guide will be available on Cleartrip’s website from September 1, 2006.

Speaking about Small World, Hrush Bhatt, Founder Cleartrip, said, “Planning is an integral part of travel and Small World is our way of simplifying travel planning, of making the world a smaller place. Small World gives our customers easy access to thousands of pages of high quality travel content, which they can use to plan their travel. We are extremely excited about Small World and our partnership with Lonely Planet.”

Small World’s content base will be refreshed every week to keep it up-to-date.

Now this move could be because other portals like Yatra.com had a Indian city guide and makemytrip.com has developed a destination guide as well as a travel community on oktatabyebye.com while cleartrip had launched with just the plain ticket booking service and hotel booking service. Also to me it makes perfect sense from a business point of view to let the specialists (in this case lonely planet)handle their work while the company focusses on its core competencies that is providing online travel.
