Asians to rule the Internet - Year 2026

Predicting the future might be the work of astrologers and tarot card readers but when analysts start gazing into the future 10 years hence its bound to be looked at with apprehension. But if the analysis is done by Red Herring then it surely does deserve to be taken with more seriousness. So At the Red Herring Asia 2006 conference Wednesday in Hong Kong, Safa Rashtchy decided to travel to 2026—10 years further than other analysts dare to look. A managing director of Piper Jaffray who analyzes the Internet, Mr. Rashtchy said more than half the world’s Internet users would be in Asia by 2026: 1.3 billion out of a total of 2.5 billion. Now if these numbers are to be taken even half as seriously then India having the second largest population (by 2026 it could be closer to the largest i.e. china) its a calculated assumption on my part that India would probably by one of the top 3 most internet savvy countries thereby making all the investment happening right now in internet companies sound very very smart investment.
