The highly poplar Orkut, a social networking site, is facing a possible lawsuit from Brazilian prosecutors, they say it “contains information promoting crime and child pornography”. They also want Google to pay $61m in damages. Obviously Google has withheld the information & in it’s mort probability will keep on doing so in the future. In a similar case early this year Google Vs. Gonzales, where the U.S. government filed a subpoena against Google pressurizing them to release extracts of Search to fight child abuse online.

All of us using Orkut (Indians in particular) know kind of communities defaming India is posted. Others are the types, which hurt religious sentiments. And wouldn’t mind of the users of this are banned. So it must be the same case in Brazil where general user sentiments have been hurt. Keeping the jargons of law aside isn’t it common sense that the government should intervene at some place to draw the line. Also we believe they are upholders of the law, so why this case be any different.

Of course it shouldn’t be like the AOL case when earlier this month they accidentally (I don’t really know what that means) released & later apologized for search information it released of more than 450,000 users.
