We had mentioned burrp.com in one of our earlier blogs regarding India 2.0. Now burrp.com has launched its mumbai specific site on 15th August with online reviews of bars, pubs, restaurants and cafe’s. burrp is a web 2.0 model i.e. the user drives the content on the site. All the reviews, ratings on the site is user submitted. Infact to be honest their site looks nice and user friendly with tag cloud for easy browsing experience. They even have an advertiser Fame Cinema’s (Im sure it wasn’t through google adwords but I am not sure fame cinema’s paid them). Well the burrp’s concept and revenue model seems to be highly influenced (if thats the right word) from a pretty old site Bestofbombay.com.
i say pretty old because it started around since 3 years ago bestofbombay.com is not a web 2.0 concept but has complete reviews of the nightlife in mumbai and also ratings and reviews of bars, pubs, restaurants and cafe’s but only of mumbai. It even has a map of mumbai which gives you the locations of all these places. Now bestofbombay.com is the best site that i have seen which covers the entertainment hangout and party scene in mumbai and i have still to see them become very popular with the mumbai junta (though they seem to have good NRI traffic (my sources tell me)! Maybe its because they are not user driven and there is little scope for user to interact with the website. What makes burrp.com special is probably two things one is user generated content and the other is the scale to be all india which gives it a bigger market. Atleast the first step has been in the right direction for them. Their mumbai version mumbai.burrp.com looks decent. Only time will tell how they progress.

Many thanks to WATblog for the coverage on http://mumbai.burrp.com. I agree with Rajiv that what the larger net community will find special about burrp! is the fact that it is for the people, by the people. User reviews and recommendations will always be more relevant than what one critic has to say about any given place or event. We have the largest index of establishments on burrp! than any other resource available on the web, so you can write a review for pretty much any place imaginable.
We will be launching city-specific portals for every major city in India over the next few months, so watch out for that. Also, we continue to work hard building out some really cool features for future releases. I invite your readers to send their feedback directly to me: deap AT burrp DOT com.
Again many thanks to WATblog and all your readers. We truly appreciate the mention.
PS: Regarding Fame, we have partnered with them on a much deeper level, so the banner is not through Google (as you can see on the banner, there is a special offer to burrpers).
At this point of time, the ads or partnership is not about money at all. We dont believe in showing a bunch of unrelated ads/banners. Unlike other India centric portals/sites we dont want to plaster the site with useless stuff, that 99% people ignore anyway.
As Deap pointed out, we ran the Fame promo only because it gave a special offer to the registered Burrpers.
