Business Standard: As the India’s travel scene get super competitive and margins are squezzed in order to be the cheapest airline India’s airline companies are in the search for the all very important NTR (non-ticket revenues). Now Most airlines which already have a visible web presence and high traffic thanks to the boom in E-travel are looking at leveraging the reach the of the web. NTRs account for about 8-9 per cent of Air Deccan’s revenue, it is planning to grow it to 18-20 per cent in the next 2-3 years through new initiatives like online shopping through its high-hit website. Competitor SpiceJet is also planning to offer online shopping and booking options for facilities like hotels. It is evaluating the in-flight catalogue shopping option too. GoAir as well is aggressively looking at growing their non-ticket revenue to about 20 per cent of overall revenue over the next two years through inflight advertising as well as hotel booking and car rental options through their website.
So it looks like now you will be able to shop as well as book hotels along with your air tickets.. Hmmm now what makes Cleartrip, Makemytrip, Yatra and Travelguru and others (there are soo many of them!) different from these Air Travel sites? Except for the fact that they are aggregators of all different airlines?.. well good question.. Im still wondering..
