Reuters: Have you ever been to Hansdehar village? or even heard about it? Can you guess which state in India it belongs to? Well Hansdehar village is a village in haryana and the reason im writing about it is because it is the first model internet village and details about the entire village have been listed on a village information website known as smartvillages.org. Visitors to Hansdehar village’s Web site can see the names, jobs and other details of its 1,753 residents, browse photographs of their shops and read detailed specifications about their drainage and electricity facilities. Ironically most of the residents can’t yet surf the Hansdehar Web site as the village is not yet connected to the Internet. This is just the start though the grand aim is to encourage more of India’s 640,000 villages to upload themselves and unite in online networks to advance the cause of rural India. Now wont that be fantastic for rural growth. It would also mean localised vernacular content would suddenly be hot selling content on the internet and also online ad companies would be advertising for pesticides, seeds and tractors! Talk about rural revolution! But all this is still far away we should be happy though that a start has been made
