Marraiges are no more made in heaven they are made online on the internet and no im not saying this IAMAI (Internet & Mobile Association of India) has recently released a report on Online Matrimonial sites which states that that a visitor to an online matrimonial portal spends about 23 minutes searching for a prospective life partner, while in the case of a subscriber the average time spent is 36 minutes.

Murugavel Janakiraman, CEO, BharatMatrimony, says, “Online matrimonial search services have sky rocketed in the last 2 years and matrimonial websites are continuing on the path of high trajectory growth garnering Rs 58 crore in 2005-06 and expecting to cross Rs 98 crore in 2006-07. There has been a surge in users from 4 million in 2004-05 to 5.5 million in 2005-06 and is estimated to grow to 7 million users by 2006-07.”

Sanjeev Bikhchandani, CEO of InfoEdge, which manages Jeevansathi.com, says, “The number of unique matrimonial profiles added each year on the online websites is about 2-2.5 million.”

Anupam Mittal, chairman, IAMAI, and chairman & managing director, People Group, which runs Shaadi.com, has said, “Over the next two years we are expecting to see over 50 per cent growth in the online matrimonial services business driven largely by the need for a convenient matchmaking solution that works, the increased internet penetration in India, as well as the demographic profile of India - almost 65 per cent of our population is under 35 years of age.”
