Chai lelo.. chai.. darjeeling ki chaiii!

Simple leafPekoe Tips, Inc. founded in 2006 based in Chicago, Illinois announced the Launch of The Simple Leaf Brand.
Pekoe Tips, Inc. recently launched their new online store as well www.thesimpleleaf.com.

The Simple Leaf™ brand has launched with 11 distinctive premium teas from India. Darjeeling, Assam, The Dooars and Himachal Pradesh are some of the growing regions represented.

Choosing the perfect tea online at www.thesimpleleaf.com is easy. There are three primary product lines, conveniently categorized by taste. simpleBold™ contains strong, hearty teas. simpleMild™ contains milder teas with a balanced flavor, and simpleDelicate™ contains flavorful, light and airy teas. Customers can also choose their teas in a variety of other ways, including by region, by price, by type (black, white, green) or by time of day. For customers intimately familiar with tea, the search function allows searching by various keywords, including the estate the tea was grown in, the season, and other distinguishing factors important to the conoisseur. Visitors to the website can also read and post reviews for products.

So if you are a tea addict you know where to go.. but whats surprising to me is that a chicago based company is selling assamese and darjeeling tea! I mean are there any Indians doing the same?? I haven’t heard of any but i shall research and get back!

    Hello Rajiv,

I was just looking at my Google Analytics account and noticed that I had a few hits coming from watblog.com. So here I am and delighted to see you have mentioned my company on your blog!

In case you were wondering, I am Indian (from Calcutta, where every second person works in tea!). However, I also spent a large part of my childhood in Darjeeling, (hence the fascination with tea!). I've lived in the US for about 12 years now (8 of those in Chicago). Last year I decided to quit my management consulting career and pursue this passion full time.

There are several Indians doing this in the US – mostly on the wholesale side of the business. I really wanted to build my own brand (with a lot of sweat equity, I might add!), so that's the idea behind The Simple Leaf. And also the fact that loose leaf tea is being marketed in the US as this ultra-luxury item, which it really isn't. So my goal is to offer a premium, fresh product, but make it accessible to everyday people.

Where are you based? I've been browsing through yuor posts – very interesting blog. When you get a chance check out our blog – leave a comment, questions, whatever.

Warm regards, and thanks again for this post.
